  • Overview

    The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) is a public health preparedness and emergency response organization in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services. ASPR was created under the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act in the wake of Hurrican Katrina to lead the nation in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters. The SIIM office oversees all matters related to security, intelligence, and information management at ASPR. This position will support SIIM in various aspects. 


    • Provide overall program and management analyst support to the ASPR/SIIM/Security division
    • Basic understanding of Guard Force oversight. Day to day operations, requirements such as working “Posts”, maintaining certifications and licenses, code of professional conduct/handling inquiries and complaints from clients, interactions/communications with Guard Force managers
    • Working with ASPR Security Specialists. Handling and review of reports and information dealing with sensitive locations/facilities, assisting with Security Assessment Reports, interface with US Marshals and other Law Enforcement personnel
    • Understanding of security terms
    • Oversee administrative operations and serve as an administrative support role for the division, including travel coordination and planning, phones, messaging, and reimbursement actions
    • Provide business operations support and analytical support for the administrative operations
    • Reviews and edits correspondence and reports submitted by staff for accuracy of content in relation to program objectives and issues
    • Drafts and revises letters/memos/notifications/commendations/acknowledgements on behalf of the division
    • Ensure records/file management and communications organization for the division
    • Confidential coordination of activities between the ASPR Security personnel (SNS and BARDA) and ASPR/SIIM/Division of Security operations at headquarters
    • Maintain regular contact with program POCs, while maintaining discretion regarding security matters being handled
    • Maintain daily communications with USMS (SNS partner), and coordinate LE/Security events, meetings
    • Provide daily support on programmatic budget management and related processing of payments and expenditures
    • Assemble/file confidential reports and maintain other controlled programmatic reports/documents that may contain information regarding SNS sites, contents, and personnel
    • Generally assist team members with projects that require knowledge of confidential information related to the program
    • Provide exercise support including serving as a role player, a POC for event coordination, and scribe for meetings and events (either remotely or in-person)
    • Other related (security) management and programmatic tasks, as required


    Required Education:

    Bachelor's degree in science, emergency management, or a minimum of 4-6 years experience in the public health.

    • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently

    • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
    • Intermediate level Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, and Adobe Acrobat skils
    • Superior time management skills



    Required Clearance:

    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
