  • Overview

    Aveshka is seeking an Public Health Program Analyst to help provide support to CDC’s Influenza Coordination Unit (ICU). The ICU is responsible for ensuring that these diverse activities are coordinated, effective, and efficient, providing both leadership and budgetary authority for pandemic influenza preparedness activities at CDC.  A critical function of the ICU is its ability to convene key CDC stakeholders and provide the operational infrastructure needed during an influenza pandemic response or similar emergency.  


    • Engage with CDC partner and external organizations as appropriate to inform pandemic influenza preparedness programs
    • Advise on-going strategic management and planning for influenza preparedness, including engagement with federal, state and local governments.
    • Assess complex problems and barriers to improvement and/or enhancement of CDC pandemic preparedness programs and activities; recommend and assist in implementation of problem resolution strategies and actions
    • Analyze information, discern relevant and critical points that impact the organization.
    • Develop proposed organization responses to critical areas of concern.
    • Ability to review and synthesize information and data into recommendations, presentations, and key issues.
    • Coordinate and manage controlled correspondence, Congressional inquiries, GAO or OMB requests or audits, and Freedom of Information Act requests.
    • Possess general knowledge and experience in medical countermeasures, policies relative to stockpile assets, work with BARDA and ASPR, writing justifications relative to preparedness and response and stockpile budget requirements.
    • Develop operational needs, operating plans, develop logistical and operational support needs for response events.
    • Work across public health organizations to garner support, exchange information, solicit recommendations, synthesize information, develop pros/cons for positions, and develop policy/position papers.
    • Provide broad Public Health, science, or research knowledge and assist the team in translating requirements or inputs from stakeholders.

    • Provide project management or coordination assistance.

    • Assist in providing swift updates of infectious disease trends, research, and prevention programs.

    • Perform web and print communications activities, and assist in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of communication material impact and effectiveness.

    • Partner with internal and external audiences in the development of Flu on Call response materials

    • Develop communication resources for federal, state, and local public health partners

      Perform other related functions such as literature reviews or light research activities.


    Required Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 3+ yrs related experience, or MPH + 1 yr related experience

    Required Experience:

    • Strong writing and organizational experience
    • Flexibility to take on a variety of tasks - writing, editing, tracking, project support, etc
    • Experience translating stakeholder requirements for public health into actions, communication tools, et
    • Familiarity working in remote office and/or multiple customer locations
    • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat
    • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilities
    • Highly resourceful team-player with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
    • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client servicer and response.
    • Ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions

    Desired Qualifications:

    • MPH degree is preferred
    • CDC experience is strongly preferred
