    Responsibilities

    • Performs research and engineering laboratory functions involving the testing, analysis and evaluation of materials and processes.
    • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc.
    • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
    • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
    • Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
    • Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
    • Assembles electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments. Sets up and operates test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and records results.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:

    • Entry Level
      • High School plus advanced training, and 2-3 years of experience.
    • Junior
      • High School plus advanced training, and 3-6 years of experience.
    • Mid
      • High School plus specialized training, and 6+ years of experience.
    • Senior
      • High School plus specialized training, and 8+ years of experience.

     Required Experience:

    • Entry Level
      • Under general supervision, capable of performing all jobs including the most complex.  Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practices.  Work is checked since errors may cause delay or expense. May assist and train less experienced personnel. 
    • Junior
      • Extensive knowledge of field. Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Plans own work.
    • Mid
      • Extensive knowledge of field.  Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Plans own work. Uses judgment within limits of standard practice. Only asks for supervision for unusual cases.  Errors could affect other operating groups. May have day to day work coordination of others.
    • Senior
      • Extensive knowledge of field.  Uses judgment within limits of standard practice. Works on assignments that are complex, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Errors could have a significant effect on the program or operations. Trains and may oversee the work of less experienced staff.
