    Aveshka is seeking a Laboratory and Biosafety Specialist to help provide support to the operational administration, infrastructure and management preparedness activities of the OPHPR.

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Office of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response (OPHPR) provides a variety of technical services in support of public health and emergency preparedness.  Their mission is to safeguard health and save lives by providing a flexible and robust platform for public health emergency response.



    • Possess expertise in all 57 agents and toxins that are regulated by the CDC Division of Select Agents and Toxins.
    • Maintain up to date knowledge in laboratory facilities, bio-hazard safety, containment.
    • Respond verbally or in writing in response to scientific and technical inquiries regarding laboratory safety and/or the handling of any of the regulated agents and toxins and of the process and steps of obtaining or maintaining an entity’s Select Agents registration.
    • Provide scientific or expert briefings to individuals, organizations, or communities regarding the regulated select agents and toxins.
    • Conduct in-depth inspections of registered regulated laboratories to ensure that entities are following appropriate safety and security measures and complying with all the requirements of the Select Agent Regulations.
    • Identify and recommend appropriate security and safety measures to deter the theft, loss, or release of select agents from these regulated registered laboratories.
    • Document and maintain inspection records, identified deficiencies, recommendations, timeframe to respond and address deficiencies, and follow up action as required.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required, Advanced degree preferred
    • 5+ years of work experience related to the job description

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Familiarity working in remote office and/or multiple customer locations
    • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat
    • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilities
    • Highly resourceful team-player with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
    • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client servicer and response.
    • Ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
